Senior Constable Adam Hall said the crash had occurred at about 11.30am when the man was driving a red 2000-model Mazda 323 sedan on a gravel section of Glenfern Rd.
"The vehicle slid off the road whilst negotiating a right-hand curve and impacted heavily with a tree. The male was the sole occupant of the vehicle," Senior Constable Hall said. Police closed the section road between 637 and 959 Glenfern Rd while the incident was investigated and the scene cleared.
Police said the young man was believed to be in Tasmania on a 12-month working visa and they were liaising with interstate and overseas authorities to notify his family.
Tasmania Police, Ambulance Tasmania, Tasmania Fire Service and the State Emergency Service attended the scene. Glenfern Rd at the location of the crash was closed until 5pm. "Traffic in the area was light with minimal disruption caused," Senior Constable Hall said.
Anyone who saw the car before the collision is asked to contact Senior Constable Hall at the Southern Crash Investigation Service on 6230 2111 or by contacting Crime Stoppers. Tasmania "Police express their sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased," Senior Constable Hall said.
