Man charged over Mood Food hold-up

POLICE have arrested and charged a Bridgewater man as their investigations continue into an alleged armed robbery at New Norfolk this morning.

Late tonight Tasmania Police said they had a 22-year-old Bridgewater man in custody after charging him with aggravated armed robbery, aggravated assault, firearm and traffic offences. He is expected to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court tomorrow (Saturday).

Investigations are still being carried out to identify the second person involved in this morning's incident which occurred at the Mood Food petrol station and takeaway on Montagu and Burnett streets in New Norfolk. A later incident at Berriedale when a firearm was allegedly pointed at police is also being investigated and may be related.

Police ask that anyone with information in relation to the robbery, or who saw a Toyota Corolla hatchback  (registration DH7421) being driven on Thursday night or Friday morning, to contact Tasmania Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000.
