Minor Flood Warning for the River Derwent

Flood Warning Number: 12

Minor flooding has redeveloped in the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam early Wednesday morning. At this stage minor flooding is not expected to extend downstream to Macquarie Plains.

Lake King William is expected to spill during Wednesday resulting in elevated river levels downstream.

Rainfall totals of 20 to 30mm are forecast for the Derwent catchment during Wednesday, with higher totals possible about elevated areas. This rainfall is expected to maintain high river levels for the next few days.

Strong flows will remain a hazard throughout the Derwent catchment for the next few days.

River Derwent above River Ouse:

River rises have been observed in the upper reaches of the Derwent catchment. Most storages within the Derwent system are at high levels, with several dams spilling. Lake King William is expected to spill during Wednesday resulting in elevated river levels downstream.

River Ouse:

River levels in the River Ouse are expected to remain below minor flood levels during Wednesday.

The River Ouse at Ashton peaked at 2.41 metres around 11:00 pm Monday 03 October and is currently at 1.85 metres and steady.

River Clyde:

River levels in the River Clyde are expected to remain below minor flood levels during Wednesday.

The River Clyde at Bothwell is currently at 1.36 metres and steady.

River Derwent above Meadowbank Dam:

Renewed rises are expected in the middle reaches of the River Derwent above Meadowbank Dam during Wednesday.

Tyenna River:

River levels are expected to continue easing along the Tyenna River during Wednesday.

Styx River:

River levels are expected to continue easing along the Styx River during Wednesday.

River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam:

Minor flooding is occurring along the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam.

The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is currently at 4.12 metres and rising. The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is likely to peak between 4.80 and 5.10 metres overnight Wednesday into Thursday.

The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is currently at 2.72 metres and steady. The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains will remain below the minor flood level (4.00 m) during Wednesday.

River Derwent around New Norfolk:

River levels expected to remain below minor flood levels around New Norfolk during Wednesday.

The River Derwent at New Norfolk is currently at 1.08 metres and falling.
