FLOOD WATCH FOR NORTHERN AND CENTRAL RIVER BASINS, THE RIVER DERWENT AND THE HUON RIVER

A flood watch continues for Northern and Central river basins, the River Derwent and the Huon River
A cold front crossed the state on Friday morning and an associated low pressure system lies south of Tasmania. In 12 hours to 3pm Friday the highest observed rainfall totals were 37mm in the north east and 25mm in the south. Widespread falls of 10 to 20mm were recorded across Tasmania. Further falls of 5 to 15mm are forecast for the remainder of Friday into Saturday.
River rises have been observed in the North Esk River catchment in the north east, and in the upper Huon River catchment in the south. With forecast rainfall and catchment conditions, further stream rises are likely with some areas of minor flooding possible.
The Bureau is monitoring the situation and will issue catchment specific warnings if required.
Strong and dangerous flows are likely to remain a hazard in all catchments during Friday into Saturday.
