Minor Flood Warning for the River Derwent

Issued at 3:50pm on Monday 10 October 2016

Flood Warning Number: 3
Minor flooding has developed in the lower reaches of the River Derwent during Monday afternoon. Minor flooding is not expected to extend downstream to New Norfolk.
Lake King William continues to spill resulting in elevated river levels downstream.
In the 24 hours to 9AM Monday, rainfall totals of 20 to 50mm were reported about the upper reaches of the Derwent catchment. Since 9AM, a further 10mm has been reported. Showers will continue to ease, with 5 to 15mm forecast for Tuesday, mainly about the upper part of the catchment.
Strong flows will remain a hazard throughout the Derwent catchment for the next few days.

River Derwent above River Ouse:

River rises are occurring in the upper River Derwent. Lake King William continues to spill resulting in elevated river levels downstream.

River Ouse:

River levels are expected to remain below minor flood levels in the River Ouse during Monday.

The River Ouse at Ashton is currently at 1.61 metres and steady.

River Clyde:

River levels are expected to remain below minor flood levels in the River Clyde during Monday.

The River Clyde at Bothwell is currently at 1.14 metres and steady.

River Derwent above Meadowbank Dam:

River rises are occurring in the upper River Derwent during Monday.

Tyenna River:

River rises are occurring in the Tyenna River during Monday.

Styx River:

River rises are occurring in the Styx River during Monday.

River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam:

Minor flooding is occurring along the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam.

The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is currently at 3.94 metres and steady. The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam may peak between 4.10 and 4.40 metres overnight Monday into Tuesday.
The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is currently at 2.42 metres and steady. The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is expected to remain below the minor flood level (4.00 m) overnight Monday into Tuesday.

River Derwent around New Norfolk:

Minor flooding is not expected to extend downstream to New Norfolk.

The River Derwent at New Norfolk is currently at 1.48 metres and rising. The River Derwent at New Norfolk is expected to remain below the minor flood level (2.00 m) overnight Monday into Tuesday.
