Minor Flood Warning for the River Derwent

Flood Warning Number: 4

Minor flooding has developed in the lower reaches of the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam during Friday afternoon. Minor flooding may extend into the lower River Derwent around New Norfolk during Saturday morning.

Strong rises have been observed in several tributaries in the Derwent catchment during Friday. Most river levels have peaked and are now easing.

In the 24 hours to 9AM Friday, widespread rainfall totals of 30 to 50mm were reported about the Derwent catchment, with the highest total of 98mm at Interlaken. Rainfall totals of 15 to 25mm have been observed since 9am Friday.

Strong flows will remain a hazard throughout the Derwent catchment for the next few days.

River Derwent above River Ouse:

River rises have been observed in the upper reaches of the River Derwent above the River Ouse during Friday.

River Ouse:

River levels throughout the River Ouse are below minor flood levels and easing.

The River Ouse at Ashton peaked at 2.56 metres around 05:30 pm Friday 30 September and is currently at 2.31 metres and falling.

River Clyde:

River levels throughout the River Clyde are below minor flood levels and easing.

The River Clyde at Bothwell peaked at 2.68 metres around 03:30 pm Friday 30 September and is currently at 1.86 metres and falling.

River Derwent above Meadowbank Dam:

River rises have occurred in the middle reaches of the River Derwent above Meadowbank Dam during Friday.

Tyenna River:

River rises have occurred in the Tyenna River during Friday and are now easing.

Styx River:

Minor flooding has eased at the Styx River at Bruces Bridge.

River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam:

Minor flooding is occurring along the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam.

The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam peaked at 5.96 metres around 10:55 pm Friday 30 September and is currently at 4.74 metres and steady. The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is likely to fall below the minor flood level (4.10 m) during Sunday.

The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains peaked at 3.90 metres around 06:30 am Saturday 01 October and is currently at 3.82 metres and falling.

River Derwent around New Norfolk:

Minor flooding may occur along the River Derwent around New Norfolk.

The River Derwent at New Norfolk is currently at 1.60 metres and steady. The River Derwent at New Norfolk may peak between 1.90 and 2.20 metres Saturday morning.
