Major Flood Warning for the River Derwent

Issued at 3:11pm on Monday 6 June 2016

Flood Warning Number: 4

Major flood has developed in the River Ouse at Ashton early Monday afternoon. . 

High levels of minor flooding are occurring below Meadowbank dam with river levels expected to reach the major flood level (7.30m) overnight tonight.

Major flooding to extend in the Lower River Derwent about Macquarie Plains overnight Monday into Tuesday.

Minor flooding expected to develop at New Norfolk township overnight Monday into Tuesday.

River Derwent above River Ouse:

River rises are occurring in the upper reaches of the River Derwent.

River Ouse:

Major flooding is expected along the River Ouse.

The River Ouse at Ashton is currently at 4.15 metres and rising. The River Ouse at Ashton is expected to exceed the major flood level (4.50 m) Monday afternoon. The river level is likely to peak between 5.60 and 6.00 metres late Monday evening.

The River Ouse at Ouse is expected to exceed the major flood level (5.70 m) Monday afternoon.

River Clyde:

Minor flooding is expected along the River Clyde.

The River Clyde at Bothwell is expected to exceed the minor flood level (2.00 m) Monday afternoon. The river level is expected to peak between 2.30 and 2.50 metres overnight Monday into Tuesday.

The River Clyde at Hamilton is likely to exceed the minor flood level (2.40 m) Tuesday morning.

River Derwent above Meadowbank Dam:

River rises are occurring in the middle reaches of the River Derwent.

River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam:

Major flooding will occur along the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam.

The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is currently at 5.22 metres and rising. The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam will exceed the moderate flood level (6.10 m) late Monday afternoon. The river level is expected to exceed the major flood level (7.30 m) overnight Monday into Tuesday.

The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains will exceed the minor flood level (4.00 m) early Monday evening. The river level is expected to exceed the moderate flood level (5.00 m) overnight Monday into Tuesday and is likely to exceed the major flood level (6.70 m) Tuesday morning.

River Derwent around New Norfolk:

Minor flooding is expected along the River Derwent around New Norfolk.

The River Derwent at New Norfolk is expected to exceed the minor flood level (2.00 m) overnight Monday into Tuesday. The river level is likely to peak between 2.80 and 3.10 metres early Tuesday morning.
