VOLUNTEERS at New Norfolk and National Park will benefit from a share of this year's Commonwealth Volunteer Grants. Federal Member for Lyons Eric Hutchinson said grants had been awarded to the Lions Club of New Norfolk, Derwent Valley Rotary Club and the Friends of Mt Field.
“The Lions Club of New Norfolk will receive $4777 for computer equipment, office equipment and outdoor equipment, and the Derwent Valley Rotary Club will use their $4500 for outdoor furniture and equipment,” Mr Hutchinson said. The Friends of Mt Field will receive $1230 to assist with fuel costs, landscaping and gardening.
“The grant funding is designed to make the work of volunteer organisations easier, safer and more enjoyable. The investment delivers vital support to small community organisations and the dozens of local volunteers involved,” Mr Hutchinson said.
The grants of between $1000 and $5000 enable local organisations to better support their volunteers and the community by purchasing equipment and computers, helping with training and meeting fuel costs, or undertaking background security checks.
