Police seek house fire witnesses

POLICE have appealed for information about a suspicious house fire in Kensington St last night.

"Around 7.20pm on Tuesday, emergency services were called to the fire at Unit 22, 35 Kensington St, New Norfolk," Constable Stephen Bugg said. "Members of the New Norfolk Fire Brigade attended and were able to extinguish the fire," he said.

"This morning a fire scene examination was conducted by members of the Tasmania Fire Service and Tasmania Police," Constable Bugg said. "As a result of the examination, police believe the fire at the unit was deliberately lit.

The property is owned by Housing Tasmania and was vacant at the time of the fire. Damage was estimated at $100,000.

Police urge anyone with information about the fire to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
