The mystery signage in viewed from Hobart Rd. |
Earlier, the same lettering had been in place at the rear of the Granton Green Reserve where the Derwent Valley Council staged a Federal Election media stunt that failed to attract any media*.
A statement issued by a public relations firm acting for the council explained that the council was calling on politicians to put the Derwent Valley "back on the map" but some are now interpreting the signage to represent that New Norfolk is firmly back on the map following the success of Dark Mofo at Willow Court.
Mona (the Museum of Old and New Art) says the events it presented at Willow Court attracted 12,700 visitors between June 9 and 19. The support of the local community and the commercial sector has been celebrated on a banner at Lees Corner in High St.
* Maybe we're being too harsh. While no media attended the event at Granton yesterday morning, The Derwent Valley Gazette gave it front page coverage today and the Mercury included comments from Mayor Martyn Evans in today's issue.
