Liberals promise esplanade makeover

RIVERFRONT cycleways, disability walkways, improved visitor facilities and a relocation of the New Norfolk Rowing Club would be funded by a re-elected Coalition Government, Lyons Liberal MHR Eric Hutchinson has announced.

"The Derwent Valley community will benefit from a re-elected Turnbull Government with a $600,000 commitment to the Derwent River Waterfront Revitalisation Project that will increase accessibility to locals, boat users and tourists," Mr Hutchinson said.

"The plans include disabled walkways and cycleways along the waterfront, barbecues, playground, public toilets, moving the rowing club to the south bank, signage for amenities and historical/environmental values, improved river access points and so on. This will make the area more usable for the community and for markets, festivals and sporting competitions," he said.

“The magnificent Derwent River is the lifeblood of New Norfolk and the greater Derwent Valley – this project will help it become a real focal point for the community. By revitalising the waterfront it will stimulate the local economy and provide many benefits to local residents and businesses.”

The announcement in New Norfolk last week was also attended by the Federal Minister for Trade and Investment, Steven Ciobo MHR. The project will follow on from the impending construction of a marina funded by the State Liberal Government at the last State Election.
