Moderate Flood Warning for the River Derwent
Issued at 7pm on Friday 15 July 2016
Flood Warning Number: 7Minor to Moderate flooding continues in the lower reaches of the Derwent catchment below Meadowbank Dam and around Macquarie Plains. Minor flooding developed about New Norfolk during Friday afternoon. Strong flows are also occurring in several tributaries in the Derwent catchment.
In the 24 hours to 9AM Friday rainfall totals of up to 77 mm were recorded in the lower River Derwent catchment and up to 65mm in the upper River Derwent. No significant rainfall has been reported since 9AM Friday.
Strong and dangerous flows may be a hazard throughout the Derwent catchment into the weekend.
River Derwent above River Ouse:
Strong flows are likely to continue throughout the Upper Derwent catchment into Saturday.
River Ouse:
River rises were observed during Friday morning but minor flooding is not expected in the River Ouse.
River levels are expected to remain below the Minor flood level (2.4 metres) at Ashton.River levels are expected to remain below the Minor flood level at Ouse.
River Clyde:
River rises were observed during Friday morning but minor flooding is not expected in the River Clyde.
River levels are expected to remain below the Minor flood level at Bothwell.River levels are expected remain below the Minor flood level at Hamilton.
River Derwent above Meadowbank Dam:
Minor flooding will continue in the middle reaches of the River Derwent into Saturday.
Tyenna River:
Strong flows are likely to continue in the Tyenna River into Saturday.
Styx River:
Minor flooding eased in the Styx River during Friday afternoon. Strong flows are expected to continue in the Styx River into Saturday.
River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam:
Moderate flooding is occurring along the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam.
The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam peaked at 5.90 metres (Moderate flood level 6.10 metres) around 11:00 am Friday 15 July and is currently at 5.33 metres and falling.The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains peaked at 5.20 metres around 01:00 pm Friday 15 July and is currently at 4.90 metres and falling. The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains is expected to remain around the moderate flood level (5.00 m) Friday evening.
River Derwent around New Norfolk:
Minor flooding is occurring along the River Derwent around New Norfolk.
The River Derwent at New Norfolk is currently at 2.15 metres and rising. The River Derwent at New Norfolk is likely to peak between 2.20 and 2.50 metres Friday evening. High tides may affect the timing and magnitude of this peak.Flood Safety Advice:
