Initial Minor Flood Warning for the River Derwent
Issued at 12:48pm on Thursday 14 July 2016
Flood Warning Number: 1Minor flooding is likely develop in the lower Derwent catchment below Meadowbank Dam and some tributaries by Friday morning. Minor flooding may extend downstream to New Norfolk during Friday afternoon.
Rainfall totals of 50 - 80mm are forecast for the Upper Derwent catchment during Thursday with higher totals possible about elevated areas. Snow melt from recent cold weather is likely to melt and add to the flows throughout the catchment.
River Derwent above River Ouse:
Strong river rises are likely throughout the Upper Derwent catchment overnight Thursday into Friday.
River Ouse:
Minor flooding is not expected in the River Ouse.
River levels are expected remain below the Minor flood level at Ashton.River levels are expected remain below the Minor flood level at Ouse.
River Clyde:
Minor flooding is not expected in the River Clyde.
River levels are expected remain below the Minor flood level at Bothwell.River levels are expected remain below the Minor flood level at Hamilton.
River Derwent above Meadowbank Dam:
Minor flooding may develop in the middle reaches of the River Derwent by Friday morning.
Tyenna River:
Strong rises are likely in the Tyenna River during Thursday afternoon into Friday.
Styx River:
Minor flooding is likely to develop in the Styx River during Thursday afternoon, with strong rises currently occurring.
River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam:
Minor flooding is likely along the River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam.
The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is likely to exceed the minor flood level (4.10 m) Friday morning.The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains may exceed the minor flood level (4.00 m) Friday afternoon.
River Derwent around New Norfolk:
Minor flooding may occur along the River Derwent around New Norfolk.
The River Derwent at New Norfolk may reach the minor flood level (2.00 m) Friday afternoon. Tidal effects around New Norfolk will affect the timing and magnitude of the peak.Flood Safety Advice:
