Three national champions

Josh Farrow, left, Ryan Banks-Smith and Jack Stevenson.
THREE Derwent Valley boys played a part in the State Under-16 football team's national championship win on the Gold Coast earlier this month.

Ryan Banks-Smith played in the middle and had an outstanding game that resulted in him being named best-on-ground. The talented centreman had a day out with the footy and also kicked a fine goal.

Jack Stevenson and Josh Farrow played pivotal roles down back on some highly talented forwards, teaming up in a great display of defensive footy. Farrow was also named in the best players for his role at centre-half-back.

Having a national final win at such a young age is a huge achievement. Back in the rooms after the victory the team showed its elation by belting out the team song in fine style. This can be viewed on the AFL Tasmania Facebook page.

The team made it into the final after accounting for the Northern Territory on July 5 at Carrara Stadium by a massive 71 points. All three boys played well. The final on July 9 saw Tasmania defeat NSW/ACT by 16 points at Southport on the Gold Coast to take out the Division 2 Championship.

Stevenson was also selected to play in the State Under 15 team taking part in the School Sport Australia carnival in Maroochydore, Queensland from July 23-30.

Congratulations boys, hold your heads very high as you have done our Valley and state proud.
