Final update: floodwaters subsiding

Final Flood Warning for the River Derwent

Issued at 4:28pm on Saturday 16 July 2016
Flood Warning Number: 10

Floodwaters were still lapping at the river's edge in New Norfolk
earlier today. Strong flows may be a hazard over the weeekend.
Minor flooding is expected to ease in the lower reaches of the Derwent catchment below Meadowbank Dam during Saturday evening.

River levels throughout the River Derwent basin are likely to continue easing overnight Saturday and during Sunday.

In the 24 hours to 9AM Friday rainfall totals of up to 77 mm were recorded in the lower River Derwent catchment and up to 65mm in the upper River Derwent. No significant rainfall was recorded in the 24 hours to 9AM Saturday. No significant rainfall is expected on Saturday and Sunday.

Strong and dangerous flows may be a hazard throughout the Derwent catchment during the weekend.


River Derwent above River Ouse:

No further flooding is expected in the River Derwent above River Ouse. River levels are expected to continue easing during Saturday and Sunday.


River Ouse:

River levels are expected to continue easing during Saturday and Sunday in the River Ouse.


River Clyde:

River levels are expected to continue easing during Saturday and Sunday in the River Clyde.


River Derwent above Meadowbank Dam:

River levels are now easing in the middle reaches of the River Derwent.


Tyenna River:

No further flooding is expected in the Tyenna River. River levels are expected to continue easing during Saturday and Sunday.


Styx River:

No further flooding is expected in the Styx River. River levels are expected to continue easing during Saturday and Sunday.


River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam:

Minor flooding is expected to ease in the lower reaches of the Derwent catchment below Meadowbank Dam during Saturday evening. River levels are expected to continue easing during Sunday.
The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam peaked at 5.90 metres around 11:00 am Friday 15 July and is currently at 4.61 metres and falling. The River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam is expected to fall below the minor flood level (4.10 m) Saturday evening.
The River Derwent at Macquarie Plains peaked at 5.20 metres around 01:00 pm Friday 15 July and is currently at 3.68 metres and falling.


River Derwent around New Norfolk:

No further flooding is expected in the River Derwent around New Norfolk. Tides are likely to maintain high river levels overnight Saturday, with renewed minor flooding not expected.
The River Derwent at New Norfolk peaked at 2.18 metres around 06:00 pm Friday 15 July and is currently at 1.50 metres and rising.
